Employee Clock-In and Out Across HRIS Timekeeping Apps FAQ
Whether your team punches in on ADP, Workday, UKG, Paychex, Paycor, Dayforce, or Gusto, the goal is the same: every minute worked should flow into payroll without manual cleanup. This FAQ answers 20 of the most common questions employees and managers have about clocking in and out across major HRIS platforms, organized by how timekeeping works, mobile clocking, web clocking, manual entry, and payroll accuracy.

- How does ADP timekeeping work?
- ADP Workforce Now captures employee punches through mobile apps, web clocks, physical time clocks, or kiosk devices. Each punch records the time, employee identity, and (when configured) location. Approved hours then flow into ADP payroll, applying overtime rules, rounding policies, and pay codes automatically. Managers review and approve timecards before each pay period closes. The system flags exceptions like missed punches or overtime thresholds so they can be resolved before payroll runs.
- How does an ADP timecard work?
- An ADP timecard is a digital record of all punches, hours, and pay codes for one employee in a single pay period. As employees clock in and out, ADP populates the timecard automatically. Managers open the timecard to review totals, resolve flagged exceptions (missed punches, unapproved overtime), and approve the record. Once approved, the timecard data moves into payroll processing. Employees can also view their own timecards to verify hours before the approval deadline.
